If you need to have a lot of stuff (diapers, toys) at your destination, but don't want to have to haul it with you, you can ship it ahead.  American Express offers this service, as does the postal service.  Either mail your stuff to your destination address (if a hotel, call them to make arrangements first), or mark it Poste Restante.

Different countries have different rules for Poste Restante. To find the size and time limits their postal service will hold the items, google or check travel guides.

And hey, this way the airlines won't lose your stuff, and you can insure it!  (Not that I've had great success on either point with international mail.)
